Technical Requirements and Site Accessibility

The Exploring Self Employment Opportunities for People With Disabilities - A Self Assessment Workbook Course has been developed to accommodate the most basic technical requirements; however, there are some issues you need to know:

Here are the minimum recommended technology requirements for taking an online course:

  • An Internet connection speed of 28.8 kbps or higher

  • Word processing program - MS Word or MS Word compatibility

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher.

  • Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher

For those who do not have ongoing access to the internet, Project Community Sites and Local Community Learning Network member organization will discuss website material in person at their offices. Please see Community Sites. As well, many public libraries and other organizations are Canada Computer Access Program (CAP) sites and provide free internet access to the public.

Site Accessibility:

The website’s Main Menu pages and the Exploring Self Employment Opportunities for People With Disabilities - A Self Assessment Workbook Course modules have been developed following the guidelines of the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) to make it accessible for everyone including people with disabilities.

The information is suitable for people using screen readers or speech browsers, users with slow modem connections, and with any web browser.

Access Keys

Some users can't or prefer not to use a mouse for navigation. Keyboard access keys are provided as shortcuts to the most often used internal links within the site. They are included at the bottom of every page.

User Testing

User testing and site auditing has been carried out to ensure a customer friendly web page interface and easy site navigation using A-Prompt http://aprompt.snow.utoronto.ca
