Community Assets MappingCommunity Assets Mapping is the process of identifying and connecting the resources or assets within a community. The Office of Literacy and Essential Skills has adopted asset mapping as a tool in building learning networks within and across communities.To bring disability and business development organizations together, asset mapping workshops were hosted by the Project’s five Community Sites. Each workshop brought together representatives from a diverse group of community-based organizations that serve people with disabilities interested in self-employment. Workshop participants created an inventory and map of the physical location of services and assets that support persons with disabilities in their community.
One-day focus groups were also held to explore the common themes identified by the community assets mapping workshops. The participants in the focus groups provided comments and advice about:
